Justfog coil guide, which head fits the 14 and 16 series
A Q16 passed on by a friend, an old C14 found at the back of a drawer, a second-hand P16A. The day the vapour starts tasting of scorched cotton, the same question comes up in front of the spare parts listings. Product pages print model lists that do not match, wattage ranges that change from one shop to the next, sometimes even a different wire metal. Picking a Justfog coil ought to take ten seconds. This guide puts back in order what the listings jumble up.
Which Justfog coil fits which device
For Justfog’s 14 and 16 series tanks and kits, the standard replacement Justfog coil is the OCC head, made in two values, 1.2 ohm and 1.6 ohm. It is usually sold in boxes of five and is built for mouth-to-lung vaping, the tight draw where vapour is held in the mouth before it is inhaled. Justfog has since added a 1.2 ohm FF head, fitted as standard to the Q16 FF and presented as designed for the Q16 series.
Cross-checked across several retailer listings, compatibility covers the older C14, G14, Q14, S14 and P14A tanks, then the next generation, the P16A, Q16, Q16C, Q16 Pro, Q16 Pro Plus and Q16 FF. The brand’s pod devices, such as the Minifit, Myfit or Glent, run on their own pods and sit outside this family.
| Family | Models named by retailers | Head to use |
|---|---|---|
| 14 series | C14, G14, Q14, S14, P14A | OCC coil, 1.2 or 1.6 ohm |
| 16 series | P16A, Q16, Q16C, Q16 Pro, Q16 Pro Plus, Q16 FF | OCC coil, 1.2 or 1.6 ohm |
| FF head | Standard on the Q16 FF, Q16 series according to Justfog | FF coil, 1.2 ohm |
| Justfog pods | Minifit, Myfit, Glent | Each pod’s own cartridge |
Both values screw onto the same thread. Switching from one to the other needs no adapter and no new tank, only a sensible power setting, covered further down.
The FF head, short for Flavor Focused, follows a different logic. Justfog describes it with Fe-Cr-Al wire, 9 mm wide and 17 mm tall, with a recommended power of 10 to 16 W. Retailers still list the Q16 FF as compatible with the OCC head, which therefore remains an option on that kit.
Why one Justfog coil has served the whole range since 2016
The longevity of this part is no catalogue accident. It shows up in the register of European notifications that the manufacturer publishes on its own website, filed under the Tobacco Products Directive.
That register lists an “OCC Coil Cylinder 1.2/1.6 ohm” under number 00692-16-00006, notified on 17 November 2016. The same date covers the C14 tank (00692-16-00005), the Q14, the G14, the P14A, the P16A and the Q16 (00692-16-00016). Head and tanks were therefore filed together, in a single batch, and the markets attached to each entry include GB.
Notified later, on 25 January 2019 under number 00692-19-00054, the Q16 Pro tank did not get a new head, since retailers list it with the same coil. That is why a Justfog coil bought today still fits a tank sold almost ten years ago.
Several listings describe the wick of this head as Japanese organic cotton. The register also names other heads, for the 1453 and the Fog 1, filed under references separate from the 14 and 16 series one.
1.2 or 1.6 ohm, what the value really changes
The resistance value decides how much power the coil receives at a given voltage. This is where listings contradict each other most, and a simple calculation settles it without relying on them.
Real wattage, a sum you can redo yourself
Ohm’s law gives power as the square of the voltage divided by the resistance. Retailers quote a working range of roughly 3.2 to 4.4 volts for this head. Here is what that means for each value.
| Voltage | Power at 1.6 ohm | Power at 1.2 ohm |
|---|---|---|
| 3.2 V | 6.4 W | 8.5 W |
| 3.7 V | 8.6 W | 11.4 W |
| 4.2 V | 11.0 W | 14.7 W |
| 4.4 V | 12.1 W | 16.1 W |
The 6 to 12 W range printed on most listings matches, once worked out, the 1.6 ohm head alone. At the same voltage the 1.2 ohm climbs to about 16 W, which is why some pages give it a higher bracket. On a fixed-voltage kit, the 1.2 ohm head will always run hotter than the 1.6 ohm one.
Draw, vapour and e-liquid
The 1.6 ohm head gives the tightest, most discreet puff. It suits a liquid rich in propylene glycol, which listings put at 50 per cent of the base or more. The 1.2 ohm opens the draw slightly and produces more vapour, while staying firmly in mouth-to-lung territory.
Both remain small-bore heads. A very thick, glycerine-heavy liquid feeds them poorly and invites dry hits. Our nicotine free vape guide explains how to read the VG/PG ratio on a bottle.
In the UK, nicotine e-liquid is capped at 20 mg/ml in bottles of no more than 10 ml, and refillable tanks are limited to 2 ml. Some tanks that take these heads are listed with more, such as the 3 ml Q16 Pro Plus, so the capacity printed on the box is the figure to check.
Fitting and priming a new head
A new head is most at risk in its first seconds of firing. How you fit it matters as much as the value you chose, and the whole job takes only a few steps.
Swapping the head with an empty tank
On tanks from these series, the Justfog coil screws into the base. Empty the tank, unscrew the base, pull out the old head and screw in the new one by hand, without forcing it. A damaged or badly seated seal causes leaks that no coil will fix.
Priming before the first puff
Drip a few drops of liquid straight onto the cotton visible through the head’s openings, then fill the tank. Waiting a few minutes lets the wick soak through. Take the first puffs at the bottom of the power range before moving up gradually.
Spotting a genuine Justfog coil
The brand has been widely copied, and nothing says a copy matches the value printed on its packaging. Two simple checks avoid an unpleasant surprise.
The first is on the box. Each pack carries a scratch-off sticker that unlocks an online check on the manufacturer’s website, by QR code or by serial number. A box with no sticker deserves suspicion.
The second is to read listings with some distance. Pages consulted for this guide disagree on the wire metal, Kanthal for some and nichrome for others, and on the exact list of compatible models. When in doubt, the original box and the tank’s manual remain the references to check.
To compare these older tanks with today’s tight-draw pods, our look at the Geekvape Wenax M2, the tight-draw pod offers a recent point of reference.
FAQ
These answers cover practical questions that product listings tend to skip.
How long does a Justfog coil last?
No official lifespan is published. One retailer listing suggests around 10 to 15 tank refills. A very sweet liquid generally clogs the wick faster, and a burnt taste remains the most reliable signal.
What does OCC on the box mean?
UK listings expand it as Organic Cotton Coil, meaning a head with an organic cotton wick. It is neither a value nor a model, the value is printed next to it.
Do these coils work with nicotine salts?
Values of 1.2 and 1.6 ohm, run at low power for mouth-to-lung vaping, match the kind of hardware these liquids are designed for. The ratio in the bottle matters more than the type of nicotine.
Will a Justfog coil fit another brand’s tank?
None of the listings consulted names a device from another brand. The head is designed for the 14 and 16 series tanks, and an improvised fit on another tank invites leaks.
Should I change the coil when I change e-liquid?
It is not compulsory, but the cotton holds on to strong flavours such as menthol or aniseed. Moving from a fresh recipe to a dessert one on the same head often blends the two for several refills.
Choosing a Justfog coil without mixing up the series
The OCC head covers the whole 14 and 16 family, from the C14 to the Q16 Pro Plus, and has done since its 2016 notification, while the 1.2 ohm FF head joins it for the Q16 series. The real choice is the value, 1.6 ohm for the tightest draw, 1.2 ohm for a little more vapour at the same voltage.
Before ordering a Justfog coil, check that your device is not a cartridge pod, work out the wattage for the value you pick and check the sticker on the box. To place that choice within a wider look at hardware, our method for choosing the best vape sets out criteria anyone can apply.
